GirlTalk of Milwaukee is a not for profit organization committed to serving, strengthening and empowering women and girls ages 10-18 to overcome adversities that stem from living in poverty and become active and contributing members in their communities. We use tailored initiatives and various innovative methods to address the nationwide problem of poverty and we challenge program participants to persevere regardless of negative circumstances. We aspire to see tangible growth, change and development in each individual that we serve. In addition, we implore women and girls to maximize their potential as we prepare them for active community service and leadership through volunteering and life skill courses.

Since our inception in 2008, we have made continuous strides to help underserved communities in Milwaukee to overcome the adverse effects of poverty; in particular, the Harambee neighborhood. Through our annual back to school benefit, "Project Gift", we have provided over 250 students with the supplies needed to attend school. This event has proven to be an effective means of support for parents in underserved communities, to not only receive school supplies, but they also receive gift cards from local organizations for food, clothing and household items to assist them through economic hardships. In addition to receiving supplies and gift cards, we provide guest speakers to articulate to the girls the importance of positive self esteem and utilizing their skills and talents to strengthen their communities. Our program effort truly embodies our motto, "sowing seeds into the lives of others".

It is our goal to help 100 families in 2011, but to achieve this goal, we need your help! We are asking individuals to donate $10.00 to support our cause. It is our assertion that self-esteem, education and community support are fundamental elements women and girls need to overcome poverty and become virtuous women making a positive impact in our communities. With help from caring community individuals like you, we are able to help them to develop the values and skills needed to become leaders in their lives now and in the future.
